The professional Dota 2 team Ninjas in Pyjamas are in a hunt for a new captain as Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev announced today his departure from the official roster. Sonneiko joined the team in April 2020 and held the captaincy. Under his supervision, Ninjas performed well and the team secured a decent ranking in the leaderboards.

Is it Official?
As the player announces his exit from the team, Ninjas in Pyjamas are officially lacking a captain for now. However, it is still unknown whether this decision was made mutually by the organization and SoNNeikO or it was just his own. On the other hand, NIP has still not officially given any statement on the captain leaving the team. We can expect official news from the organization anytime. Besides this, SoNNeiko did not mention any reason for leaving the team but he did say goodbye to his teammates. The captain also mentioned about the good times he had with the teammates.
Kyle Freedman’s Response
As the Tweet of the captain got viral, a lot of Dota 2 professional analysts commented on the situation. A very famous and former Dota 2 player and analyst, Kyle Freedman, also tweeted about the SoNNeikO leaving the team. He said that it is a bad move for Ninjas in Pyjamas. The analyst looked discomforted of the news and favored SoNNeikO in his tweet. He also said that the captain is polite and would not say a word, but for me, NIP has taken a bad step.

SoNNeikO’s Run with NIP
SoNNeikO served his team and supervised it by playing position five in it. His spontaneous and mechanical skills gave NIP a chance to stand in one of the most competitive regions in Dota 2, Europe. From the beginning, NIP improved tournament by tournament under SoNNeikO’s captaincy. The Sweedish organization picked a team from the pubs known as Chicken Fighters and gave them a new label, Ninjas in Pyjamas. Throughout, the team improved itself and eventually secured the fourth position in the ESL One Los Angeles online tournament.
There are plenty of opportunities available for SoNNeikO in Europe. The former captain of Natus Vincere has a better future in Europe. As SoNNeikO plays as position five, there is a position available in Alliance that is currently being occupied by a loan player from Team Gambit, Artiom “fng” Barshack. Similarly, the former captain could also link up with a past teammate, Idan “MagicaL” Vardanian. As Natus Vincere let go of Magical, he is now free for collaborations. Both of the former teammates can form a new team and can pick up new talent to enter the pro scene once again.
SoNNeikO’s departure news was not pleasing for the community as some of the analysts raised their voices against it. However, the reason is still unknown. The former captain left the team happily and wished his past teammates good luck.
