PlusOne Dota 2 team suspended from BTS for match fixing

PlusOne Dota 2

Beyond the Summit official organizers announced that they have removed team PlusOne from the series due to match-fixing. Moreover, they have also banned three out of five members of the team from the future Beyond the Summit series. The official Twitter page of the Beyond the Summit stated that the team has been caught match-fixing in multiple series. Team PlusOne cannot further take part in the tournament. The organizers won’t count any of the series it took part in during the event.

Banned Players

Beyond the Summit organizers made a prompt decision and removed the whole team of five from the tournament immediately. Similarly, the tournament organizers also placed a ban on three out of five players in the team. Xuan, Ched, and Jano are the three players of the team who got a permanent ban from the Beyond the Summit present and future series. On the other hand, Dnm and Wij only got removed from the current series and are allowed to participate in the future event.

Fixed Matches

The official members of Beyond the Summit said that the investigation is still on and further suspensions and penalties could be on their way. Similarly, the organization has passed all the relevant information about the case to Valve. Team PlusOne can face lifetime ban as Valve holds a very strict policy against match-fixing in Pro Dota 2 events.

While there is not a lot of information available for the matches to be questioned through official statements of the organization, the co-founder of the organization “David Parker” disclosed the matches on Reddit. He pointed out that the team fixed the matches against team Plasma, Quincy, and Evil Geniuses.

While most of the people think that the fixed matches were totally based on win/lose situations, the co-founder of the organization, Parker let out the information that most of the fixed bets comprised markets like First Blood, the first team to achieve 10 kills, total kills, and total kill difference between the teams. These markets are easy to hold while a lower-tier team like PlusOne faces an upper-tier team like Evil Geniuses.

As Valve has a very strict policy against match-fixing in the Pro Dota 2 circuit, it is very rare nowadays to do so. PlusOne is the second team that got caught in match-fixing. Before this, Chinese Dota 2 Professional Association banned one of the strongest Chinese Dota 2 teams, Newbee in May.

Beyond the Summit

Beyond the Summit continues to roll even though they removed OnePlus from the series. All the other matches and scores remain the same. As the group stages will be ending in a couple of days, Business Associates are the only team that has guaranteed the upper-bracket spot currently.  The teams like Evil Geniuses, Quincy Crew, and Thunder Predator can also move to the upper brackets of the tournament. The tournament moves forward with the same prize pool of $50,000 USD and is due to end on June 29th.
